Abbey Farms Monthly Roundup November 2019
Thanksgiving at Abbey Farms Thanksgiving is a special time of year at Abbey Farms. A time when we welcome so many customers to linger at the Farmstead Emporium store, enjoying donuts, apple crisp, hot cider – the comfort food of our Pine Tree Cafe, and much more. The time of year when fall is in full swing, the temperatures are getting colder and the holiday spirit starts to take over.
Gift giving starts to enter our minds, and many customers come to Abbey Farms this week to purchase their tree. Decorating the tree on Thanksgiving, or in the days just following, is a tradition for many. Many of our customers enjoy the annual ritual of dinner with our locally grown Ho-Ka turkeys. Our Farmstead Emporium store is open daily at this time of year (10am-2pm on Thanksgiving), with Abbey Farms-branded seasonings and sauces for holiday meals the choice for many.
But there is so much more to Abbey Farms at Thanksgiving – with Santa at the Farm all weekend, the Pine Tree Cafe, our new highly rated Marmion Abbey Quadruple Ale, plus wreaths, garland, toys, apparel, collector's items, specialty gifts and more. So many things going on – we look forward to welcoming you to a special holiday visit at Abbey Farms!
Christmas and the Holiday Season at Abbey Farms Christmas at Abbey Farms is a cherished time. The monks of Marmion Abbey have been growing Christmas trees for sale since the 1940s – the start of Abbey Farms. It means so much to us to bring the holiday cheer of the season to so many residents of the Fox Valley area and beyond through our tree programs. Each year we plant more than 15,000 trees on our own 90-acre tree farm, where there are some 80,000 trees growing after planting. And in late November we ship in thousands more from our sister farm in Michigan for our Pre-Cut tree lot.
Our customers count on us for wreaths, garland, for our experienced staff to assist with shaking, baling and tree tie down on cars – plus a free donut and small hot chocolate with each tree purchase. If you look around, you may see our Marmion Abbey monks assisting in the bakery, or the gift store, or even in the fields. It has all become a holiday tradition for so many, and we have done our very best to build a destination that will provide lasting memories with each visit. Plan your trip to Abbey Farms' Winter Cheer and Christmas Joy today!
Taste of Abbey Farms
Our first-ever Taste of Abbey Farms was a resounding success! Our "Taste" season was two weeks of daily samplings of delicious items made with our Abbey Farms sauces, spices, seasonings, dips, jams and more. Plus – customers were able to participate in our Paint with a Pint classes, Father Eusebius' French Cookin' class, Jazz Samplin' night with a big band sound, Tune & Tastings on the weekends, and more. We look forward to doing it all over again next year! Click here to view a few photos from our 2019 Taste of Abbey Farms!
Stock up for a Festive Fall!
While this is the season for visiting our Farmstead Emporium store in Aurora, Illinois, and all the special seasonal items that it offers – our online store remains open, with many of the staples that are available all year 'round ready for easy purchase and door-to-door shipping. Enjoy!
Introducing Marmion Abbey Quadruple Ale
Our brand-new 2019 Belgian-style craft brew was created with the assistance of master brewers from two Fox Valley Breweries, under the guidance of Abbey Farms and the monks of Marmion Abbey. It has been highly rated by reviewers, and our first-ever batch is more than half sold and selling fast, with the shopping season just heating up. Don't miss this opportunity to try our first Marmion Abbey Ale, and see what beer-lovers have been talking about!
Purchase an Apple Tree for Christmas
Abbey Farms is very proud to have launched a capital campaign to raise money for a beautiful orchard that will grow to include more than 25 varieties of apples. It will be sited across Hart Road in perfect view of visitors of the Farmstead Emporium, with its elevated position on the rise, set back from the eastern side of the road. Customers may sponsor their very own tree, with their tax-deductible donation earning exclusive rights for that tree – for its entire life! Larger donations and corporate sponsorships are available for entire groves, as well. Plant roots with Abbey Farms' Apple Orchard, and watch something beautiful grow on your neighborhood farm!
Recipe of the Month:
Crèpes comme Chez Josselin
Father Eusebius calls these Crepes comme Chez Josselin – which is a nod to the best crepes he had when he lived in Paris. As Father E tells the story, La Rue de Montparnasse has many creperies, but only one would routinely have a line out the door. So Eusebius would go there and watch them work – and thus learned how to make their crepes! Click for the recipe, which he presented to us during Taste of Abbey Farms this November!
Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree
Abbey Farms is always thinking about sustainability, and we work to include sustainable farming, processes and operations into the farm with every initiative. If you'd like to learn more, some of those are outlined on our website!
